Project Description

Metal Corner Bee Escape

  • A bee escape is a one-way door that allows workers to leave the honey super and return to the brood nest during the night, but the board foils their attempts to reenter the box. This is used before extracting honey.
  • A solid metal escape usually used in pairs in opposite corners, or all four corners of escape boards.  A popular choice.
  • Note that there needs to be plenty of room below the escape board for the exiting bees to easily leave the honey supers.  Severe congestion near the escape exits make clearing the honey supers problematical.  So if not using a deep 50mm escape board, a spacer rim needs to be added below the honey supers and the escape board.

Place a bee escape board (or crownboard) below your box of honeycomb 24 hours before you plan to harvest honey, and you’ll return to find a mostly empty box. A metal corner escape is often used in opposite corners or all four corners. You will need to fix this bee escape into a board, or buy one of our assembled bee escape boards.

Wooden Bee Escape board not included.
