Project Description
Screened Bottom Board 8-Frame Langstroth
The screened bottom board was originally developed to help control varroa mites, but beekeepers soon realized this particular style of bottom board was also great for adding extra ventilation to the hive and controlling moisture levels when used without the included debris board. Use the debris board periodically during the spring, summer and fall when you’re doing your 24-hour mite checks to assess the mite population in your hive. The included removable debris board is also helpful for winterization, when installing a new hive, or requeening your hive, as the debris board helps contain the queen’s scent for better acceptance into the colony.
- Great for controlling the varroa population in your hive or adding ventilation
- Reinforced base for added strength
- Includes debris board, slanted landing board and entrance reducer
- Designed for use with an 8-frame hive body
The 8-frame screened bottom board comes completely assembled. Help colonies survive by providing them with screened bottoms. The ultimate in Integrated Pest Management.
In cooler months of the year a solid bottom board is used to allow retention of heat. As temperatures remain above 70℉ / 21℃ during the day for the other eight months of the year, we use a screened bottom board which allows integrated pest management techniques for mites as well as superior ventilation for the evaporation of moisture from the nectar that is brought in to produce honey.
