A small hive beetle (SHB) trap for catching and or killing small hive beetles. Just one of the tools a beekeeper can use to keep hive beetles at bay. Designed by Beetle Jail in South Carolina, this trap hangs conveniently inside your hive between frames to catch beetles where they like to hide the most. These traps work with the bees natural tendency to corral the beetles into a small area, which is where the beetles prefer to hide.

These traps are easy to clean out and reusable season after season. Two separate compartments serve as a trap for the beetles to enter and not escape. Each compartment has a sharp edge that prevents the beetles from easily walking out. But to increase efficiency, a small amount of oil or diatomaceous earth in each compartment will kill beetles and make these traps more effective.

A small compartment in the middle of these traps can be baited to attract more beetles. Pollen, chopped banana peel or apple cider vinegar are popular baits. Most beetles will harbor in the corners of the top box, using 2 of these traps in the top box will work well.
